This course is designed to provide scalehouse operators, equipment operators, spotters, laborers, and other key landfill employees with an overview of landfill operations. Participants will understand the role of the sanitary landfill as a component of an integrated solid waste management system, learn the fundamentals of groundwater movements, the contributing factors to leachate production, and learn the fundamentals of accident analysis. JW Spear, president of J Spear Associates, is an expert on planning, design, construction, regulation and operation of solid waste management facilities. As a registered engineer, Spear teaches landfill cap and cover systems, landfill gas recovery system, and leachate recirculation design concepts for the University of Wisconsin. Divided into two 2-hour sessions, attendees will thoroughly understand the role of sanitary landfills as a vital component of an integrated waste management system.
