LANDFILL OPERATIONS WORKSHOP (Thursday, June 12, 2008-8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) Learn how to control cost, maximize your sites airspace, and determine if your landfill is really efficient. Upon completion of the course, you can earn 20 landfill CEU's. Additionally, with registration you receive the book "The Handbook of Landfill Operations," by Neal Bolton. Anyone interested on learning more about improving the daily operations at their landfill site must take this course. Through in-depth discussions this course helps you solve everyday issues surrounding landfill operations, allowing you to understand successful landfill management practices, including equipment selection.
LANDFILL FIRE CONTROL WORKSHOP (Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
This landfill fire control workshop will address the common
causes of fires at landfills, with particular focus on
spontaneous combustion, which has been proven to be the
chief cause of a number of major landfill fires in North
America. Several case histories of actual landfill fire incidents
will be described to show case the improper operating
practices that have lead to fire incidents. The implementation
of correct operating practices at a landfill facility can go a long
way to safeguarding against fire outbreaks. The benefits of
proper compaction and covering of waste, choosing the
correct type and quantity of cover material, limiting the size
of the waste cells and the active filling face, backfilling
excavations and routine site inspections with gas and
temperature monitoring will be outlined.
